A Fiesta Like No Other

A Fiesta Like No Other

Witnessing the Vigan City Fiesta and Longganisa Festival is more than just attending an event, it feels like stepping into a living museum where history, culture, and community come alive all at once. As I stood along the streets and watched the celebration unfold, I felt proud, excited, and deeply connected to the heritage that Vigan continues to preserve so beautifully.

The Grand Parade was remarkable, where the streets were filled with people, colors, and energy. Seeing the large banner announcing the Vigan City Fiesta & Longganisa Festival Grand Parade immediately set the mood. It wasn’t just a sign, it was a declaration of pride. Marching groups moved forward with purpose, carrying flags under a clear blue sky, while residents lined the streets, smiling and watching with excitement. The simple neighborhood backdrop reminded me that this fiesta is not only for tourists but for the people of Vigan themselves.

One of the most striking moments for me was watching the uniformed marching group carrying flags in perfect formation. Their historical-style attire reflected discipline, honor, and respect for the past. As they marched forward, I couldn’t help but think about how Vigan values its history, not just by preserving old buildings, but by remembering the stories and traditions behind them. It felt ceremonial,
almost like paying homage to the city’s roots and the generations that came before us.

The highlight of my experience was witnessing the cultural dance performance along Calle Crisologo. The sight was breathtaking. Performers dressed in traditional Filipino attire knelt on the cobblestone street, gracefully playing tambourines in perfect rhythm. Their movements were synchronized, elegant, and full of meaning. Surrounded by ancestral houses and a large crowd of locals and visitors, the performance felt intimate yet grand. The cheers, applause, and camera flashes showed how much everyone appreciated the moment. What made this experience truly special was the atmosphere. The streets were alive, not just with music and movement, but with a shared sense of identity. Families watched together, children sat on sidewalks, and visitors stood in awe. It reminded me that fiestas like this are not only celebrations, but ways of passing culture from one generation to the next.

As I walked through the heritage streets of Vigan during the fiesta, I realized that this city doesn’t just preserve history, it celebrates it. Through parades, music, traditional clothing, and community participation, Vigan shows the world that its culture is not frozen in time, but proudly alive. This experience left me with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for my heritage. The Vigan City Fiesta and Longganisa Festival is not just something you watch, it’s something you feel, and I’m grateful to have witnessed it firsthand.

In the Process of Becoming Better

In the Process of Becoming Better

This third quarter has been a meaningful period of growth and self-discovery for me. Throughout this time, I gained a deeper understanding of the lessons discussed in class and improved my ability to apply concepts through activities, discussions, and performance tasks. I discovered that consistent practice and active participation helped me better grasp difficult topics. More importantly, I learned the value of discipline, responsibility, and time management, which contributed not only to my academic development but also to my personal growth. Though life isn't all about academics, we should also build our life by exploring new things, make new friends, learn or try something you've never done nor heard before. Life is also about having fun, balancing achievements and trying to live your life the fullest.

Despite these achievements, I also encountered several challenges during the third quarter. Some lessons were difficult to understand at first, especially those that required critical thinking and analysis. There were moments when deadlines felt overwhelming due to multiple tasks from different subjects. In addition, adjusting to the pace of lessons and maintaining focus during demanding weeks tested my motivation and confidence.

To address these challenges, I made an effort to manage my time more effectively and prioritize my responsibilities. I reviewed my notes regularly, asked questions whenever I was confused, and sought help from my teacher and classmates. I also practiced self-discipline by setting study schedules and minimizing distractions. Through these efforts, I was able to overcome difficulties and gradually improve my performance and understanding.

"Great things come from hard work and perseverance. No excuses." This quote by Kobe Bryant reminds me that success does not happen overnight. It is built through consistent effort, patience, and the courage to keep going even when things get difficult. It teaches us that challenges are not reasons to quit, but opportunities to grow stronger and more determined. Moving on, I will continue to apply the lessons I have learned during the third quarter. I aim to become more proactive in my studies, improve my problem-solving skills, and maintain a positive attitude when facing challenges. I will strive to manage my time better and stay committed to my goals, knowing that perseverance and dedication are key to achieving success in the coming quarters. I'll continue to remind myself that I'm still in the process of becoming even better. Not just for me, but also for my family and my future.

A Voice that Changed a Nation

A Voice that Changed a Nation

Jose Rizal’s greatest contribution to Philippine society was helping Filipinos believe in themselves. During Spanish rule, many Filipinos were taught to feel small and powerless, as if they were meant to stay silent and obey. Rizal challenged this way of thinking. Through his words and actions, he reminded people that they were human beings with dignity, intelligence, and the right to be heard. Rizal’s novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo felt personal to the people who read them. He wrote about families torn apart by injustice, students silenced for asking questions, and communities suffering because of abuse of power. These were not distant or exaggerated stories, hey reflected everyday life. Because of this, Filipinos did not just read his books, they felt them. His writing made people angry at injustice but also hopeful that change was possible.

What made Rizal stand out was that he practiced what he preached. He believed strongly in education, kindness, and service. As a doctor, he treated patients who could not afford medical care. As a teacher, he shared his knowledge with young children, even while living in exile in Dapitan. He showed that loving one’s country could be as simple as helping others and doing what is right, even when no one is watching. Rizal also believed in peaceful change. He knew violence could bring freedom, but he feared it would also bring more suffering. Instead, he chose to fight with ideas, truth, and moral courage. This choice cost him his life, but it also made his message stronger. When Rizal was executed in 1896, Filipinos were deeply moved. His death awakened a stronger desire for unity and independence.

In the end, Rizal’s greatest gift to the Philippines was not just his writings or his sacrifice, but the example he left behind. He taught Filipinos to love their country with both heart and mind to question injustice, to value education, and to care for one another. His life continues to remind us that real change often begins with understanding, compassion, and the courage to speak the truth.

Four Seasons, Only One I Cherish the Most.

Four Seasons, Only One I Cherish the Most.

The Christmas season, for me, is a time of warmth, reflection, and gratitude. It is when I slow down from daily routines and focus on what truly matters, my faith, my family, and the simple joys that come with being together. Celebrating Christmas allows me to reconnect with the deeper meaning of the season, which centers on love, hope, and thankfulness. I celebrate the holidays by spending meaningful time with my family. We decorate our home, share meals, and enjoy conversations that bring us closer. These moments, though simple, are the ones I value the most because they remind me of the importance of togetherness and unity during the Christmas season. This is the only holiday that we can celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ, were we all gather as one to spend our time with our friends and family.

Giving is also an important part of how I celebrate Christmas. Whether it is exchanging gifts, helping someone in need, or offering kindness and understanding, I see the season as an opportunity to give from the heart. These acts make the celebration more meaningful and reflect the true spirit of Christmas. This is actually the most exciting part for me when it comes to celebrating Christmas. Especially our relatives who gives us these red envelopes that is filled with money. To be honest, this is the only time that I could go from rags to riches. Though, as ,much as I love receiving gifts. One of my love languages are gift giving, I would spend hours trying to find the perfect gift that I could give to my love ones no matter the price. As long that I see that they have a wide smile in their face, I'm already happy with that.

Overall, celebrating the holidays helps me reflect on the year that has passed and look forward with hope. Christmas, in its essence, is not just a date on the calendar but a season that inspires me to spread love, appreciate what I have, and carry the spirit of kindness beyond the holidays. This is a holiday where we can spend more time with our family, have fun, and talk about life.
